Word Scramble Games

Word scramble games are entertaining to play online. You can play alone, or in multiplayer games on websites that allow you to play with friends or complete strangers. Here are some websites that feature word scramble games:

  • Jumble has many variations on the same game, offering single player games, mash-ups of jumble and other games such as crossword puzzles, and forums about jumble.
  • This game at Novel Games has mixed up letters that have to be put in the right order to form words.
  • Kids Reads is full of word jumbles that are aimed at teaching kids interesting facts about famous books, authors, and history.  These are more educational in nature than the regular scramble games available online.

What Is Scramble?

Games that are a variation of the original game Scramble are all games that feature finding all the words you can within a jumbled grid of letters. It is a lot like the game Boggle, which jumbles the letters using a shaking device and special dice with letters on them. Other variations on this popular game are called by the named Jumble.

When you break it down, these games are based upon the original word puzzle known as anagrams. This is when you mix up the letters of a word or phrase, and another player has to figure out what the mixed up letters mean. This simple game never seems to get old, and the variations are seemingly endless.

Free Word Scramble Games

The best thing about most word scramble games is that they are free online, which is convenient since you can play without having to pay. A very important item to notice is that this is because these sites either value the educational nature of these games and therefore offer the games as a service, or they have a great deal of ad content on the site.

Just because a site is free does not mean it is safe: Although the majority of free game sites you will visit will be safe, be wary of sharing any personal information or downloading games that might have viruses on them. Keep your antivirus software running just in case.

Here are a few more sites that have free word scramble games on them:

  • This game at EPA.gov focuses on words that have to do with water and the government.
  • These scrambles at Fun Brain are focused on building vocabulary and spelling skills in young students. They are organized by topic on the site, and the topics are fun and can get children of all ages interested in learning. Some of these fun topics include Animals, Basketball Stars, and Countries, and they vary in difficulty from easy to superbrain.
  • The scramble games at PBS Kids are based around the Children’s television show Arthur. This game is best for children under the age of 12.
  • Like most free scramble sites, Big Money Arcade features a mixed up bunch of letters, and players must make as many words as possible in a short time frame.
