For the past couple of decades, various forms of puzzles and riddles have been circulating through magazines and the Internet asking people to list 3 words that end in gry.
The success of these puzzles and riddles is at least partially due to the fact that there technically is no answer. It is not possible to list 3 words that end in gry, at least not words that are actually still in usage today. The only two words in the English language that end in gry are "angry and hungry."
So where did this puzzle originate from then? Was it just a cruel joke on humanity? A possibility is that it started when other "gry" words had just fallen out of usage. In the past, there were dozens of words that ended in "gry," but they simply are not used anymore today. Until not incredibly long ago, both "aggry" and "meagry" were still being used. Put them in any Spell Check today, and you will see that they come up as incorrect.
If you still really want to know what those words of old were, here is a list of some words that ended in gry, when they were actually considered to be part of the English language.
As you can see, if you had been asking this question a hundred years ago or so, you might actually have a verifiable answer!
